The Jade Plant is a plant that I have had since 1997. As I was painting this picture I became aware that the woman that I was painting seemed to be connected to the jade plant and the oriental pot it is planted in. She seems exotic and patient, root bound and watching. She is not propagated from roots or seeds but by leaves that fall from her branches and root themselves with only the slightest encouragement. I asked myself, “What ideas fall from me like leaves and root themselves? When I feel root bound is there another way of sharing? “
